The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce released its newest school report cards, which show how well students in Summit County performed last school year. These report cards are meant to give parents and community members a clearer picture of how schools are doing, not only on state tests but also in areas like graduation rates and early reading.

Instead of the old A–F grades, schools now get star ratings. Three stars mean a school is meeting state expectations, while one or two stars mean the school is falling behind. Four or five stars show that a school is going above and beyond. Each district gets an overall rating, plus stars in six key areas: achievement, progress, gap closing, graduation, early literacy, and college or career readiness.

These ratings are designed to highlight both strengths and areas for improvement. For example, a school with lower test scores might still earn higher marks for progress if students are making strong year-to-year growth. Families can use this information to better understand how their district is serving students, while schools and communities can use the results to celebrate successes and focus on what needs more attention.
