EPA Updates Lead Hazard Pamphlet
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has released an updated version of its lead hazard pamphlet, “Protect Your Family from Lead in Your Home.”
Why it matters
Federal law still requires sellers and landlords to provide:
- A lead-based paint disclosure form
- Any known records of lead hazards
- The EPA-approved lead hazard pamphlet
These requirements apply to most housing built before 1978 and remain in place regardless of whether hazards are known.
What’s new in the update
- Revised dust-lead hazard and action levels
- Updated terminology around lead abatement
- Expanded guidance on identifying and managing exposure risks
EPA does not require the replacement of existing pamphlets immediately. Current stock can still be used before transitioning to the new version.
