Recently, ACAR submitted a letter to the Mayor of Orange Village, Jud Kline, and the Village Council expressing its opposition to a ban on short term rentals. Below is an excerpt of that correspondence.
“…ACAR recognizes the importance of private property rights and supports reasonable regulations that protect health and safety without unnecessary government intrusion. Property owners should have reasonable flexibility in how they use and invest in their property, subject to appropriate standards.
We understand the Village’s concerns about neighborhood character, traffic, noise, lighting, and emergency services. However, prohibiting short-term rentals altogether is an overly broad response that restricts all property owners, regardless of whether their properties create these problems. Less restrictive options could include enforcing existing noise and nuisance rules, and setting clear parking and occupancy expectations. These steps would allow the Village to address specific concerns without banning an entire use of private property.
We respectfully ask Council to reconsider Ordinance 2026-30 and pursue a balanced approach that addresses legitimate neighborhood concerns while respecting property rights. Communities are best served by reasonable, predictable regulations that protect residents without unnecessarily restricting how owners use their property…”
