Introducing the Legal Resource Inbox
Real estate professionals face an increasingly complex legal and regulatory environment. To help members stay informed and navigate common legal questions, Akron-Cleveland Association of REALTORS® is proud to introduce the Legal Resource Inbox, a new member benefit designed to provide educational legal information tailored to the issues REALTORS® encounter every day.
This new member benefit provides an opportunity for ACAR members to submit real estate-related legal questions for educational review and potential inclusion in future legal education content. By transforming member questions into educational resources, ACAR can help address common concerns, identify emerging issues, and provide information that benefits the broader REALTOR® community.
What is the Legal Resource Inbox?
The Legal Resource Inbox is a dedicated email resource where ACAR members can submit questions related to real estate law, regulations, compliance, and risk management.
Selected questions will be reviewed by an attorney and answered monthly through ACAR’s newsletters: Broker Blueprint and Next Level Knowledge. Questions will be anonymized before publication, allowing members to learn from real-world scenarios while maintaining privacy.
Why We Created It
Members frequently encounter legal topics that impact their business, but may not know where to find reliable, industry-specific information. The Legal Resource Inbox helps bridge that gap by turning member questions into educational resources that can benefit the entire REALTOR® community. By identifying common concerns and emerging issues, ACAR can also expand future legal education opportunities and resource development.
Some common topics members have questions about include:
- Ohio real estate laws and regulations
- Brokerage practices
- Risk management concerns
- Fair housing compliance
- Agency relationships
- Advertising and marketing practices
- Contract-related questions
- Industry policy changes
The Legal Resource Inbox allows us to identify common themes and provide educational information that can benefit the entire membership. Over time, submitted questions will help build a growing library of resources focused on our members’ most frequent issues.
How it Works
- Submit your question by email to: legalresource@akronclevelandrealtors.com. Include the following information:
- Full name
- Member number or license number
- Brokerage affiliation
- A clear description of your question
- Provide helpful context when appropriate, such as:
- Relevant background information
- Applicable forms or policies
- Links to related articles or resources
- Questions may be selected for inclusion in future ACAR educational content, including newsletters, legal updates, webinars, or other member communications. Questions will be anonymized before publication.
What Makes a Good Question?
The best submissions address topics that are broadly applicable to the real estate profession.
Examples include:
- Understanding Ohio real estate license law
- Fair housing obligations and compliance questions
- Agency relationship requirements
- Advertising and marketing regulations
- Disclosure obligations
- Risk management best practices
- Industry rule changes and their practical impact
- Frequently misunderstood legal concepts affecting REALTORS®
Sample Questions:
- What records am I required to keep under Ohio real estate law?
- What should I consider when advertising listings on social media?
- How do fair housing laws apply to online marketing?
- What are common risk management considerations when working with unrepresented consumers?
- What recent legal developments should REALTORS® be paying attention to?
What the Legal Resource Inbox Is Not
While the Legal Resource Inbox is a valuable educational resource, it is important to understand its limitations.
The Legal Resource Inbox does not provide:
- Individual legal representation
- Attorney-client relationships
- Case-specific legal advice
- Contract drafting services
- Litigation assistance
- Representation in disputes
- Emergency legal support
Questions that require individualized legal advice should be directed to your broker, brokerage counsel, or a private attorney.
Before You Submit
To help protect yourself, your clients, and other parties, please do not include:
- Client names
- Personal identifying information
- Confidential brokerage information
- Details of ongoing litigation
- Sensitive financial information
- Information protected by law or confidentiality agreements
Whenever possible, describe your question using general facts and hypothetical examples.
Confidentiality and Privacy
ACAR recognizes that members may be raising sensitive issues through their submissions.
Questions selected for publication will be anonymized whenever possible. However, members should avoid including confidential or personally identifiable information in their emails.
Submitting a question through the Legal Resource Inbox does not create an attorney-client relationship and should not be considered a substitute for obtaining legal advice from qualified legal counsel.
