Akron’s commercial real estate market is moving in the right direction.

The Akron Commercial Real Estate Demand Index reached 95.3 in Q2 2026, up 5.4 points from a year ago. While the market remains below the national benchmark of 100, the index has recovered from a low of 88.3 in late 2025.

And there’s a clear difference between Akron and Cleveland.

Industrial activity is Akron’s strongest commercial real estate driver.

Manufacturing grew 0.4% year over year, while population growth was 0.2%.

The recovery isn’t without challenges. Professional and business services declined 1.8%, transportation and warehousing declined 1.0%, and retail declined 0.9%.

That makes Akron’s story one of improving but uneven recovery.

The data points toward opportunities around industrial development, manufacturing investment, site readiness, infrastructure and transportation, redevelopment of existing industrial properties, and policies that support business expansion and investment.

The broader takeaway is simple: Cleveland and Akron are both gaining momentum, but their commercial real estate opportunities are different.

Understanding those differences will be important for REALTORS®, developers, investors and local governments looking to build on the region’s progress.

What’s next for Northeast Ohio CRE? We’ll keep watching the numbers.
