According to recent news reports, the City of Lakewood is considering tougher rental regulations for housing providers.
Building Commissioner Chris Parmelee has proposed rental inspections for new rentals before receiving a housing license. The inspection will have a $50 residential fee, and a $75 commercial fee, and require an interior inspection.
REALTORS® oppose any type of city-mandated property inspection without due cause to believe an issue exists on the property. Rather, the City should make an effort to enforce existing maintenance codes, regardless of property type.
ACAR will reach out to the City Council members to share concerns regarding the proposed inspections in hopes of collaborating with the Council to either roll back requirements or avoid this change altogether.
