
Akron: Ordinance amending Title 15, Chapter 150 of the Codified Ordinances related to environmental health and housing standards. The ordinance revises sections addressing hearings, repair and demolition procedures, entry into condemned dwellings, registration requirements, mandatory rental inspections, and penalties for noncompliance. The ordinance received its first reading and was referred on December 8, 2025.
Akron: Ordinance No. 9-2026 authorizes the Mayor or designee to enter into agreements with the Summit County Land Development Corporation to develop a residential housing toolkit for future housing development efforts. The ordinance supports implementation of the City’s 2025 Consolidated Plan under the Housing and Community Development Act and authorizes funding to support housing planning initiatives benefiting Akron residents. The ordinance passed unanimously.
Cleveland Heights: The City is researching Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) as a strategy to modernize housing options and improve neighborhood resiliency. This work includes a study conducted by the Cuyahoga County Planning Commission in July 2024 and a design competition funded by AARP in December 2024. Throughout 2025, the City has continued working with the County Planning Commission on potential zoning changes necessary to permit ADUs. To support this effort, Cleveland Heights retained Kronberg Urbanists + Architects, national experts on ADU development, who provided an educational presentation to City staff. The Department is also collecting informal community input through a survey and plans to hold community meetings in Fall 2025.
North Olmsted: Ordinance No. 2025-92 repeals and replaces Chapter 1119 of the Codified Ordinances governing building permits and certificates of occupancy. The ordinance aligns local regulations with the Ohio Building Code and zoning standards, formalizes zoning review prior to permit issuance and occupancy approval, strengthens enforcement provisions, and establishes procedures for conditional certificates of occupancy, appeals, and revocation. The ordinance also provides a 180-day no-cost compliance period for existing businesses to obtain valid certificates of occupancy.
Strongsville: Ordinance No. 2025-140 amends Section 1252.17 of the Planning and Zoning Code related to fencing in residential districts. The ordinance received its first reading and was referred to the Planning Commission on December 15, 2025, with a second reading and continued referral on January 5, 2026.
