Earlier this month, the Maple Heights City Council considered legislation offered by Mayor Annette Blackwell. The ordinance (2025-04) would extend the point of sale inspection escrow waiver for owner-occupant buyers through December 2025. The original escrow waiver legislation was passed in 2020.
The Akron Cleveland Association of REALTORS (ACAR) has long championed the elimination of point of sale inspections, especially those policies with an escrow requirement, as it can be a barrier to homeownership for low – moderate income households. The association has worked with the City for many years on this initiative.
ACAR applauds Mayor Blackwell for her long-time support of homeownership, and the members of City Council who supported the waiver extension. 2 members of the Council voted against the legislation.
Vote Recap:
- Supported the legislation: Council President Ron Jackson, Councilmembers Stafford Shenett, Sr., Toni Jones, Timothy Tatum, Dana Anderson, and Tanglyn Madden
- Opposed the legislation: Tina Stafford-Marbury, Edwina Agee
